Thank you and all the Respect Vapers supporters for making sure our politicians and civil servants understood the important role flavoured vapes play in helping smokers quit.
Three years ago, there was a misunderstanding about vapes and our politicians and civil servants did not understand the benefit for smokers in trying to quit.
In that time, you and the other Respect Vapers supporters have regularly made sure that all our politicians have got the facts.
We provided a constant flow of factual information, through the circulation of national and international research and most importantly, sharing your stories about quitting cigarettes by vaping. This helped to counter misinformation that was circulating online and in media.
As we face yet another list of challenges to protect the integrity of vaping in the fight to quit cigarettes, your efforts have contributed to a more balanced approach to the Public Health Bill. The authors recognise the role of vaping in the Government’s programme for a Tobacco Free Ireland.
These challenges we face include:
- The passing of legislation to ban the sale of vapes to under 18s in the next few months.
- The results of the recent survey on disposable vapes for the Government to find an appropriate solution to recover and recycle used products.
- In 2024, the EU intends to publish its view on flavoured vapes and will also consult with you and the other EU citizens about flavoured vapes.
They require all of us to continue to make sure the stakeholders are provided with facts to help them make informed decisions.
