New Government survey show less children smoking.
Respect Vapers welcomes the publication of the Irish Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) Study 2022 report, which shows that fewer children are smoking.
We believe that the implementation of the legislation banning the sale of vapes to under 18s will further reduce the number of young people trying vapes.
Vaping is playing a key role in helping adults to quit with Healthy Ireland showing that half (49%) of Ireland’s 320,000 vapers have now quit smoking completely with the help of flavoured vapes.
On World Vape Day 30th May 2024,-let’s make sure the correct facts are out there
- Almost 50% of 320,000 smokers successfully quit the habit thanks to vaping.
- 99% of vapers are ex-smokers. (Healthy Ireland 2019).
- This group is a major contributor to reducing harm caused by smoking
- Vaping helped 25% of smokers quit tobacco, while only 19% smokers quit cigarettes with patches, sprays or gums. (Healthy Ireland 2023).
- Vaping is not smoking. It does not involve burning tobacco.
- Vaping is 95% less harmful – 423 studies by 50 doctors/experts.
- Vaping products are strictly regulated in Europe and Ireland.
- The Dept of Health and HSE regulate the quality of all products in Ireland.
Medical opinion, including those of Royal College of Physicians in UK, points to the suggestion that vaping helps smokers give up their habit. In doing so, they reduce the harm caused by smoking-induced cancer.
NHS experts now accept vaping is much less harmful than traditional cigarettes. As a result, patients at hospitals in Norfolk, London, Leicester and Edinburgh are now to be offered a vaping device, enough e-liquid for a week and a referral to local smoking cessation services. The plan is part of a trial designed to help people quit smoking altogether.
Up to 18 people die from smoke-related illness every day. Vaping helps reduce these numbers. By allowing smokers to make their own choice to try vaping will help achieve a ‘Tobacco-Free Ireland’.
Elections
Over the coming weeks candidates seeking election as local Councillors or as an MEP in Europe will be calling to your doors.
This provides you and other vapers with the ideal opportunity to let the candidates know that flavoured vaping plays a key role in helping adult smokers quit tobacco.
We ask that you let them know how vaping helped you quit and how flavours are important for those quitting – as their sense of smell and taste return, they cannot stand the taste of tobacco. Flavours help quitters to stay off cigarettes.
